Marlins next manager?

The Marlins front office has begun searching for the next manager. I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on who you think will take over the reigns for the 2011 season. I like the job Edwin has done and believe he should definetly be considered to go at it with a healthy team and (hopefully) improved bullpen, but do you think our crappy owner will bring him back? Or do you think they'll go in a different direction and pursue someone else?

I know the biggest need is bullpen and catcher (IMO), and that it doesn't matter who takes over if the team doesn't address those needs first, but the fact remains that we still need a new skipper. So which manager do you think will lead us into the new stadium??

Ozzie Guillen already said he will not go to the Marlins

And Bobby Valentine is pissed at the way the Marlins treated him.

Boy, we are really scraping the bottom of the barrel, aren’t we?

What's more frustrating than being a Marlins and Orioles fan? Eye surgery???

tell me about it...

If the front office doesnt give the job to Edwin, then I hope he gets to at least be the new bench coach

I accept the nomination, however, bet under if I get the job...

something gives the idea I would clash with Loria and Samson.

New Manager

Whatever happened to Davey Johnson? Managed the Mets to World Series, took the Os to playoffs, won Manager of the Year and disappeared. It’s been a while, but he could do it!

He managed Team USA in the World Baseball Classic last year...

…and is currently in the Nationals’ front office in some capacity.

He’s a great manager, but he’s 67 years old, and hasn’t managed in the majors since 2000. I can’t imagine he would’ve had trouble getting work if that’s what he had wanted.

Unless, of course, it takes playing time away from Ryan Anderson.

Yeah...

…probably too old now.

Terry Pendleton & Ryno

Given that Terry and Ryno were snubbed for the Atlanta and Chicago jobs respectively, the Marlins may approach them. Terry played for the Marlins, and Andre Dawson might be able to approach Sandberg for the Marlins.

I hear that Bo Porter is currently the front runner, however.

I have no clue who it will be...

…but, I know who it should be. It should be Edwin Rodriguez. The players really like him and that’s all that really matters. Like I said in different post on similar topic — the manager position is overrated. I would be willing to hire a monkey to do the job if he agreed not to fling his p00p in the dugout. If the players like a manager, it’s a great thing. If they’re just indifferent, it’s not a big deal. If they hate him, it can wreck a clubhouse (i.e., see Buck Showalter and TEX).

Guillen? Pleazzzze. The guy is a whack job. Entertaining, yes. Great for Twitter, sure. Otherwise, whackjob.

I thought that John Farrell would have been a good choice. But, he’s already been tapped by TOR. BTW — why the frick would anyone want to go to TOR?

I read something about Porter possibly being a top candidate. Seems stupid. If not Rodriguez, why Porter?

Pena? Maybe. Better option than many others. I kinda like that idea, but not over Rodriguez.

Valentine? Ehhh…sort of the epitome of “indifference”…
