It’s one of the most wonderful periods of the MLB calendar: trade deadline week. Ely Sussman, Ethan Budowsky and Louis Addeo-Weiss analyze how the Miami Marlins will attempt to maximize their return on veteran players while pursuing the kind of controllable, impact bats who can propel them into championship contention in the near future.
Heavily discussed Marlins trade chips on this episode include Starling Marte, Adam Duvall, Richard Bleier, Ross Detwiler, John Curtiss, Sandy León, Miguel Rojas and Jesús Aguilar. Among the team’s possible trade targets: Ketel Marte, Byron Buxton, Bryan Reynolds, Cedric Mullins, Joey Bart and Keibert Ruiz.

Keep in mind that Bryson Brigman and Brian Miller are among the Marlins prospects who will be eligible to be selected in December’s Rule 5 draft. If the team is not particularly hopeful about their MLB impact, they could be dealt prior to the deadline, which would be preferable to losing them for nothing in the Rule 5.
