The editor-in-chief of Baseball America, JJ Cooper, joins Ely Sussman and Ethan Budowsky to break down Marlins prospects and the issues with minor league housing. Featured players include Jake Eder, JJ Bleday, Peyton Burdick, José Salas, Kahlil Watson, Griffin Conine, Kameron Misner, Jesús Sánchez and Bryan De La Cruz.
Enjoy Episode 39!
Ely and JJ both wrote recent articles urging MLB teams to take responsibility for their minor leaguers’ living expenses.
BA’s midseason Marlins Top 30 prospects list can be found here.
With the minor league season ending in less than a month, JJ hinted at some significant changes that we can expect to see in BA’s next update. Salas (currently No. 25 in the Marlins system) will rise. Burdick (No. 16) will rank ahead of his more famous Double-A teammate Bleday (No. 10). The site’s staff was preparing to move Eder (No. 4) ahead of Max Meyer (No. 2) until Eder suffered an elbow injury that will require Tommy John surgery.
As a whole, BA is lukewarm on the talent in the Marlins organization, placing them 12th in their MLB farm system rankings; nearly every other reputable outlet has them in the top 10 (MLB Pipeline, for example, has them at No. 3).
