The Marlins announced Friday that Jorge Alfaro was reinstated from the 7-day IL. He missed the minimum seven days with a concussion. Alfaro will be batting seventh and catching against his former team, the Phillies. Alfaro’s return should help solidify the Marlins lineup.

Wilkin Castillo was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans as the corresponding move. Castillo’s return to the major leagues after 10 seasons served as a heartwarming story and helped the Marlins sweep the Phillies on the road with a game-winning 2 RBI double in last Saturday’s contest.

Additionally, RHP Tayron Guerrero has been added to the 10-day IL with a right middle finger blister. The Colombian flame-thrower has had great stretches this season, but his inconsistency with his command can catch up with him. The blister may have contributed to the five walks and six runs Guerrero has given up in his last three outings.
RHP Jeff Brigham has been recalled from Triple-A New Orleans to fill his spot in the struggling Marlins bullpen. This will be Brigham’s third separate stint on the active roster.
