MLB: Spring Training-New York Mets at Miami Marlins Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Through the years, Fish Stripes has hosted a “game within the game” during the Marlins regular season. Gives us a distraction from low-quality baseball, presenting an opportunity to win even when the team gets blown out.

The concept will survive into 2019, but under a new name and format. Icthyomancy is out, “Fish Picks” is in.

When posting the daily game thread, we will include three to five prop bets at the bottom, along with the lineups and any other relevant information about the matchup. Comment with your Fish Picks prior to first pitch and you’re eligible to win!

During the regular season, the Fish Picks points leader at the end of each month—one point for each correct pick—will win a prize from our merchandise store. This weekend’s spring games are just for fun, allowing our readers to get adjusted and helping us determine any issues with the format to address prior to Opening Day.

Nationals Lineup

  1. RF Adam Eaton
  2. SS Trea Turner
  3. LF Juan Soto

  5. DH Ryan Zimmerman
  6. 1B Matt Adams
  7. 2B Brian Dozier

Notes: Pretty unusual for an NL team to be using a designated hitter this deep into Spring Training. Not doing Straily any favors (7.15 ERA, 6 HR in 11.1 IP in Grapefruit League).

Marlins Lineup

  1. LF Curtis Granderson
  2. 1B Martín Prado
  3. 3B Neil Walker
  4. 2B Starlin Castro
  5. RF Garrett Cooper
  6. SS JT Riddle
  7. CF Rosell Herrera
  8. C Chad Wallach
  9. P Dan Straily

Notes: Fellow starting rotation candidate Sandy Alcántara got his work in earlier Friday on the minor league backfields (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 7 K, 1 BB on 88 pitches)...During their recent 11-game winning streak, the Marlins averaged 6.9 runs per game...In addition to Straily, Nick Anderson, Drew Steckenrider, Austin Brice and Riley Ferrell are available to pitch.
