Marlins shortstop prospect Nasim Nuñez (@Diamonds_Nas23) calls in from instructional league to tell Ethan and Ian about his experiences as a pro baseball player so far. The Collins Hill High School product credits his family for supporting his pursuit of this dream and his teammates for making him feeling welcome in this new environment.
Enjoy Earning Their Stripes Episode 21!
Nuñez played 48 games in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League this summer, slashing .211/.340/.251 (84 wRC+) and ranking among the GCL leaders in both stolen bases (28) and runs scored (37). He received a surprise promotion to Short Season A Batavia in late August and served as their regular second baseman during a brief playoff run.
MLB Pipeline currently slots the young switch-hitter as the No. 15 overall prospect in the Marlins organization.
The Marlins second-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft (No. 46 overall), Nuñez had been committed to play college baseball at Clemson. It took an above-slot signing bonus of $2.2 million to convince him to turn pro.
Before officially entering the offseason, Nuñez is participating in fall instructional league, which continues through Friday.
