It would be fair to say that there were not too many expectations placed on the Miami Marlins as they headed into the 2023 MLB season. The team has not had the best of years (decades if you ask some) and with a new first-year manager in Skip Schumaker at the helm, many would not have been expecting the year that the team would eventually go on to have.

The franchise managed to have a highly successful season by their own standards, as they managed to make the MLB postseason. This was the first time they had reached it in twenty years, with their appearance in 2003 having long been awaited for. Of course, the team had been swept aside by the Philadelphia Phillies in the Wild Card as they lost the series 2-0, but there was a lot to be encouraged by.
How did the 2023 MLB season play out for the Miami Marlins?
The organization had managed to record a positive record in the MLB’s NL East division this past season, as they went 84-78 on the year. As we know, it was enough to secure a Wild Card spot, as the team would end up third in the division.
Miami’s late-season form was a major reason why they had managed to extend their season for the first time in two decades. They had a strong finish to the regular season, which also saw them become an attractive betting option for punters. Those who use the Betway app have always been keen on their baseball, and with the team trending in the right direction, it may give them something to think about in next year’s campaign if they want to enhance their betting experiences further.
While there were injuries and drop-offs in terms of performance, including the likes of Sandy Alcantara, other players managed to step up. Jesus Luzardo, Braxton Garrett, and Eury Perez were able to impress, as were Luis Arraez and Jorge Soler. Other moves that were made prior to the start of the 2023 MLB season - including player acquisitions - were able to pay dividends, too.
We can’t wait to be reunited with you in person next season.

That is not to say that there were things that went wrong, though, as the team had issues that ought to have been dealt with. Alcantara’s drop-off impacted the Marlins as he regressed, which may have also impacted those who use Betway for their MLB wagering experiences as the 2022 National League Cy Young Award winner would have been a popular bet.
The messy situation that involved Kim Ng and the screw-up by the organization is another area that can not be glossed over. This offseason should have been one upon which the franchise would be building, but instead, they may find they get stuck where they have always been.
Will the Marlins be able to build on 2023’s MLB performances?
While the mess at the general manager position will have been an unneeded headache for the organization to deal with, they are going to need to find someone who is capable of stepping in and leading the team in its quest to progress.
They are also going to have to wait and see what the free agents on their team are planning to do. Individuals like Soler and Josh Bell could decide to opt for free agency, and this could leave the Marlins having to make some important decisions. Alcantara is set to miss the 2024 season, so they will need to find a player capable of taking on his position and impact, which may be a loss that is too big of a blow to sort.
