Few franchises in professional sports have had a more complicated history than the Marlins. Turnover and heartbreak? Yes. World Series titles and individual brilliance? Also yes. It’s about time that somebody attempted to incorporate all of it into a single entity.
With heavy input from the fans who have enjoyed and endured so much, the Fish Stripes staff is constructing a digital Marlins Hall of Fame. Together, we shall debate and reminisce about—and vote on—the most impactful players, moments and decision-makers. The first-ever “induction ceremony” will be held in July 2020, roughly coinciding with the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s event.
Naturally, the world-renowned HOF in Cooperstown, New York, inspired parts of our own electoral procedure and eligibility guidelines. However, we are also learning from their past mistakes and controversies and making some necessary modifications to suit the relatively brief and eccentric history of the Florida/Miami Marlins.
This is intended to be an ongoing exercise—each year, there will be new candidates on the Hall of Fame ballot and different museum features to consider.
For now, we look forward to having the Fish Stripes community join us in determining and celebrating a special inaugural class.
