The Marlins reversed the tides and flat out embarrassed Stephen Strasburg on Tuesday at Marlins Park.

Marlins jump all over Strasburg

It's fair to say that nobody saw this coming. Strasburg, who had been outstanding all season up until this point, got lit up by the Marlins lineup. It all got started with a massive Giancarlo Stanton three-run homer to center field in the first inning. Stanton absolutely demolished a 2-1 changeup, putting the Marlins on the board. The Marlins added runs, thanks to timely hitting, throughout the rest of the game. Overall, no matter how you look at it, kicking Strasburg out after just four innings is an impressive feat.

As user dcfish pointed out in the game thread, Strasburg has really struggled at Marlins Park over his career, allowing 22 earned runs in 23 innings pitched. I have no explanation for this, but I'm perfectly fine with keeping it that way. If the Marlins can continue to find ways get into Strasburg's head, his starts against this team will become a whole lot more watchable.

Koehler Spins Seven Scoreless Innings

Tom Koehler was fantastic on Tuesday in his third start of the season. He worked his way through seven innings against a tough lineup. From getting Bryce Harper to ground into a double play at the start of the game to being able to recover from the Ian Desmond kerfuffle in the fourth, Koehler was on top of his game. Koehler generated nine groundouts from the Nationals, which helped make up for his five walks. If I was being critical I would look to Koehler's lack of strikeouts and five walks as a cause for concern, but seven shutout innings is what it is.

Benches Clear

In the top of the fourth, with the Marlins leading 6-0, Marlins catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Nationals infielder Ian Desmond got into an argument at home plate. A Koehler pitch had just backed Desmond off the plate and he was clearly upset and overreacting. Saltalamacchia stood up for himself and wouldn't back down, which I actually saw as a form of leadership. Luckily, nothing happened between the two. The benches cleared and although no punches were ever thrown, it was a tense situation that shadowed over a great Marlins win.

The Miami Marlins ended their eight game losing streak with an 11-2 victory over the Nationals on Tuesday night. Tom Koehler pitched seven scoreless innings.

Miami Marlins starter Tom Koehler didn't receive much run support in 2014. That wasn't a problem on Tuesday night, as the Marlins topped Steven Strasburg and the Nationals 11-2 to end an eight game losing streak dating back to the end of the last home stand.

Having scored just two runs on Monday night in a 9-2 loss, the Marlins took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna both singled before Giancarlo Stanton hit a three run home run to center field.

Strasburg's struggles continued in the second, as the Marlins' offense was able to put another three runs on the board. An Ozuna RBI-single followed an Adeiny Hechavarria triple to open the inning, and Casey McGehee plated two with a single to left field.

Strasburg was pulled after just four innings, giving up eight hits and six runs while walking three and striking out five. While Strasburg was leaving his pitches over the plate, Tom Koehler, for the second time in a week, was efficient against the Washington lineup.

Koehler gave up one run to the Nationals in six innings last week, and on Tuesday didn't give up a run in seven innings. His command was inconsistent at times, as he walked three to complement five strikeouts.

Led by Stanton and McGehee again, the Marlins added five runs in the fifth against Craig Stammen to make it an 11-0 contest.

Dan Jennings gave up Washington's lone two runs in relief of Koehler in the eighth and ninth innings.

The Miami Marlins will look to end an eight game losing streak on Tuesday night against the Nationals. Tom Koehler will oppose Steven Strasburg.

Currently riding an eight game losing streak, the Miami Marlins are set to take on the Washington Nationals in game two of the three game series on Tuesday night. Tom Koehler expressed no concerns in opposing Steven Strasburg on the mound, and Miami's offense will try and give Koehler run support after Brad Hand received just a pair of runs on Monday.

Pitching Matchup

PROJ ERA

FIP

ERA

MARLINS

Nationals

ERA

FIP

PROJ ERA

4.65

3.70

3.00

Koehler

Strasburg

4.24

2.60

2.87

In his last start against the Nationals, Koehler was efficient, giving up only two runs in six innings while yielding five hits. He is proving why he made the club out of spring training over Brad Hand, who has struggled in both outings against Washington. The Nationals scored nine times on Monday, and Koehler will look to try and slow the Nationals down offensively.

Strasburg gave up just one run in six and two third innings in his last start against the Marlins. He walked one and struck out 12, capitalizing on a currently inconsistent lineup.

For the Marlins, scoring runs has not come easy during the losing streak. Marcell Ozuna slides back into the number two spot and Casey McGehee is back at third base. The Marlins scored just twice on Monday and have provided little run support for the starters.

Adam LaRoche is back in the lineup for Washington after a day off, and Bryce Harper is starting in left field.

Notes

-Can the Marlins end the streak? The Marlins began the year well at home, and there is no better place for them to get back to winning ways.

-How active will the bullpen be? Steve Cishek hasn't thrown a lot recently, but should Koehler struggle, who will Mike Redmond call upon?
