<p>Many golden opportunities passed Miami up as they lost a tight one to Colorado. </p> <h5>Turner and De La Rosa Duel</h5>
<p>After an offensively charged game for Miami on the previous night, the power of Jorge de la Rosa's left arm was enough to contain the <a href="https://www.fishstripes.com/" class="sbn-auto-link">Marlins</a> offensive attack. Thanks to his wide array of pitches, de la Rosa was able to trick the young Marlins hitters as he worked a quality six inning performance without giving up a single Miami run.</p>
<p>On the other hand, <span>Jacob Turner</span> continues his solid rookie campaign with another quality outing that kept the Marlins in the game in the early frames. There were only two main instances where Turner really struggled were against <span>Todd Helton</span> who smashed two straight doubles which eventually lead to Colorado's two runs. Despite not being too electrifying, Turner was definitely in control for the entire two runs which will eventually be forgotten because of Miami's offensive struggles.</p>
<h5>Missed Opportunities For Miami</h5>
<p>Jorge de la Rosa and the rest of the <a href="https://www.purplerow.com/" class="sbn-auto-link">Rockies</a> pitching staff definitely put on a solid performance against Miami but that doesn't mean they were on point for the entire game. The low final score for Miami can be mainly attributed to the team's continued struggles with runners in scoring position. A prime example of that would be in the top of the 7th inning where the Marlins had a golden opportunity to blow the game open when reliever <span>Edgmer Escalona</span> allowed the bottom of Miami's order to quickly load the bases. With the top part of the Marlins' offense coming up, Escalona and two other Colorado relief pitchers (<span>Josh Outman</span> and <span>Wilton Lopez</span>) quickly struck out <span>Adeiny Hechavarria</span> and <span>Christian Yelich</span> while allowing slugger <span>Giancarlo Stanton</span> to lace an easy ground ball to the right side of the infield.</p>
<p>That aforementioned Colorado defense was also a huge factor in Miami's offensive woes as third baseman <span>Nolan Arenado</span> and left fielder <span>Carlos Gonzalez</span> took away a handful of surefire hits away from the Marlins. While it is disappointing to see so many well-hit shots go to waste, the Marlins offense was on-point for a good portion of the night despite that low score.</p>
<p>Before heading back to South Beach to start an extended homestand, the Marlins will be looking to rely on the right arm of <span>Nathan Eovaldi</span> as they look to even up the series in their final match-up against Colorado.</p>

<p>The Miami Marlins got a decent start from Jacob Turner, but the offense blew multiple opportunities to score, leading to an eventual 2-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies.</p> <p><iframe style="border:1px solid black;" width="450" height="450" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="http://www.fangraphs.com/graphframe.aspx?config=0&static=0&type=livewins&num=0&h=450&w=450&date=2013-07-24&team=Rockies&dh=0"></iframe><br><span style="font-size:9pt;">Source: <a href="http://www.fangraphs.com/livewins.aspx?date=2013-07-24&team=Rockies&dh=0&season=2013">FanGraphs</a></span></p>
<p><b>Attendance:</b> 30,900<br><b>Hero of the Game:</b> <span>Donovan Solano</span> (0.155 WPA)<br><b>Goat of the Game:</b> Christian Yelich (-0.232 WPA)<br><b>Play of the Game:</b> <span>Giancarlo Stanton</span> reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning. <span>Jeff Mathis</span> out at third. <span>Greg Dobbs</span> advanced to second base. (-0.121 WPA)</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.fishstripes.com/" class="sbn-auto-link">Miami Marlins</a> got as good a start they could have expected from <span>Jacob Turner</span> against the <a href="https://www.purplerow.com/" class="sbn-auto-link">Colorado Rockies</a> at Coors Field. Despite Turner's likely problem with home runs, he did not allow a long ball in tonight's game, and instead struck out four batters in six innings with only two walks to his name. He threw just 73 pitches before being pulled for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning, so he could have gone longer had <span>Mike Redmond</span> not made the right choice to get a batter into a critical seventh inning situation. More on that in a moment.</p>
<p>Turner looked sharp for most of the evening, limiting walks and getting seven whiffs in 76 pitches, which about matches his average rate for the season. He was economic with his pitch count and scattered six hits along the way. The only major instance of trouble came in the fifth, when he allowed singles to <span>Yorvit Torrealba</span> and <span>Dexter Fowler</span>, both sandwichin a sacrifice bunt that led to a first and third situation with one out. Turner allowed just a sacrifice fly to score the run, but it was one of only two innings in which he allowed more than one baserunner, not including the seventh inning in which one extra runner reached on an error on an attempted double play.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, it was good enough to beat the Marlins' offense tonight, as the Fish could not find their way around the bases in full. The team was able to get multiple baserunners on board in four innings in this one, including two situations in which the Fish threatened to score multiple runs. The most egregious problem came in the seventh inning, when the Marlins loaded the bases with no one out on consecutive singles by Donovan Solano and Jeff Mathis followed by a hit-by-pitch on pinch hitter Greg Dobbs. <span>Adeiny Hechavarria</span> and Christian Yelich struck out consecutively, and Giancarlo Stanton failed to deliver, leading to an empty inning.</p>
<p><span>Christian Yelich's</span> second Major League game did not go as smoothly as the first. Yelich was 0-for-4 with his first strikeout, though he did draw a walk as well. <span>Jake Marisnick</span> also failed to get on base, as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.</p>

<p>The Miami Marlins have found some wins here at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies. The Fish are looking to find a few more runs tonight, hopefully with the help of <span>Christian Yelich</span>.</p>
<p>The Fish will tackle their expansion brethren Rockies in the third game of a four-game series. Tonight, it will be the puzzling Jacob Turner versus the effective Jorge De La Rosa.</p>
<p><strong>Pitching Matchup</strong></p>
<table class="sbnu-legacy-content-table" border="0" style=""><tbody style=""> <tr style=""> <th style="">Proj Win%</th> <th style="">Proj ERA</th> <th style="">FIP</th> <th style="">ERA</th> <th style="">Marlins</th> <th style="">Rockies</th> <th style="">ERA</th> <th style="">FIP</th> <th style="">Proj ERA</th> <th style="">Proj Win%</th> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">.411</td> <td style="">4.78</td> <td style="">3.09</td> <td style="">2.44</td> <td style="">Turner</td> <td style="">De La Rosa</td> <td style="">3.12</td> <td style="">3.60</td> <td style="">4.51</td> <td style="">.439</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
<p> </p>
<p>The Miami Marlins have one confusing pitcher in Jacob Turner. He's got excellent whiff rates but mediocre strikeout rates. Last season, he could not stop allowing home runs, but this season he has only allowed three. Tonight, the Marlins are in Coors, which doesn't bode well for someone known for long flies.</p>
<p>De La Rosa is one of two or three Rockies pitchers (one of the others was Jhoulys Chacin, whom we saw last night) who has had a strong season, primarily due to not allowing home runs. Giancarlo Stanton would like a word with these pitchers.</p>
<p><strong>Lineup</strong></p>
<table class="sbnu-legacy-content-table" border="0" style=""><tbody style=""> <tr style=""> <th style="">Order</th> <th style="">Player</th> <th style="">Proj wOBA vs. RHP</th> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">1</td> <td style=""><span>Adeiny Hechavarria</span></td> <td style="">.270</td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">2</td> <td style="">Christian Yelich</td> <td style="">---</td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">3</td> <td style=""><span>Giancarlo Stanton</span></td> <td style="">.394</td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">4</td> <td style=""><span>Ed Lucas</span></td> <td style="">---</td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">5</td> <td style=""><span>Placido Polanco</span></td> <td style="">.301</td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">6</td> <td style=""><span>Jake Marisnick</span></td> <td style="">---</td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">7</td> <td style=""><span>Donovan Solano</span></td> <td style="">.314</td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">8</td> <td style=""><span>Jeff Mathis</span></td> <td style="">.255</td> </tr> <tr style=""> <td style="">9</td> <td style="">Pitcher</td> <td style="">---</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
<p>The Marlins are giving <span>Logan Morrison</span> a night off, so his first base replacement, Ed Lucas, is batting cleanup.</p>
<p>I repeat: Ed Lucas is batting cleanup for the 2013 Miami Marlins.</p>
<p>Meh, better than Placido Polanco, I suppose. But these guys couldn't score off of me pitching. We need you Yelich and Stanton!</p>
<p><strong>Bold Prediction: Rockies def. Marlins 5-0</strong></p>
