Miguel Rojas is the Soul of the Marlins Team

Not only is Rojas the current longest-tenured Marlin on the team—he is also the unquestionable leader. Rojas has a fun-loving attitude but also determination and heart to go along with his exuberant personality. If the “work hard, play hard” slogan fits anyone on the team, it would certainly be Rojas. At a time when the team is finding their direction and rebuilding in the process, Rojas has been a staple in the lineup. When Rojas is out, it feels like the team is missing a critical piece.

Leadership is that critical piece. Being a leader is not something that can be taught (although some will say it can be). Leadership is much more than being a face of a franchise or the most popular on the team. Attributes of a good leader are being there for others, leading by example, and pushing others to be their best versions of themselves. That describes Miguel Rojas.

Rojas, who recently signed a two-year contract extension last year, is set to be with the Marlins for at least the foreseeable future, and hopefully beyond. Rojas has become a fan favorite over the past several years, and his passion for the game is obvious every time he takes the field. I look forward to the return of baseball, so we can experience more moments from Rojas like the one below.

One of America’s favorite pastimes is continuing to grow

Baseball cards are a fun way to stay connected to the game we love.

Baseball cards have remained popular over the years for sports collectors all over the world. The ability to collect sets, autographs, memorabilia cards, short printed cards, and more has continued to enamor collectors. Cards have always been a way for fans to feel closer to the game. Many grew up collecting cards, and a lot still collect or have their prized childhood collections tucked away.

Sports cards in general have evolved over the years. Cards now feature certified autographs, pieces of player memorabilia such as a game-used jersey or bat piece, serial numbers, short prints and parallel versions. This has made collecting all the more fun, but also more expensive. Retail packs of cards can be purchased from any local big chain retailer, and prices usually range from $3-$60 depending on the product—the bigger the box, the bigger the cost. A lot of collectors elect to go with a hobby box of cards. A hobby box typically will offer a guaranteed autograph or relic card, and can be found at local hobby shops or online. Hobby boxes can range anywhere from around $50 all the way up to over $1000!!! It all depends on the product, and how many autographs or relics are included in the box.

Now that baseball is currently on hold, picking up a box of cards may be a fun way to help fill the sports void. Baseball cards are great for the whole family, and are a lot of fun to collect!

Yamamoto arrived to the Marlins as part of the Yelich trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. The trade for Yamamoto was a package deal that included Isan Diaz, Lewis Brinson, and Monte Harrison.

In 2018, he honed in his skills with the Class A-Advanced Florida State League Jupiter Hammerheads, and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp of the Class AA Southern League. His season concluded with the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, where he was named an “AFL Rising Star.” The right-hander had impressive stats at every stop.

MLB Stats & Outlook

Yamamoto’s debut against the St. Louis Cardinals was nothing less than spectacular. He pitched seven innings of shutout baseball while striking out five batters and earning his first major league win.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

His next appearance came against the Cardinals for the second time, where he continued his dominance. Yamamoto went on to pitch seven more shutout innings with an additional seven strikeouts. He went on to earn his second victory and set a franchise record for the most scoreless innings in a row to start his career with 14.

Yamamoto has since struggled with consistency, but has remained in the Marlins starting rotation. He is currently sporting a 4-4 overall record with a 4.31 ERA.

Yamamoto has a broad arsenal of pitches, relying most heavily on his four-seam fastball as seen in the chart here:

No doubt, he has shown flashes of potential, and looks to become a household name for the Marlins pitching rotation. There’s good reason to believe that he is capable of remaining a starter long term.

Prior to that, Díaz was a MVP in the rookie-level Pioneer League in 2015 with the Missoula Osprey. However, the following January he was traded to the Brewers in a deal for Jean Segura. During his tenure within the Milwaukee system, he led the Class A Midwest League with 20 home runs, as part of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2016. After his second season with the Brewers organization in 2017 (Adv A Carolina Mudcats), he was traded to the Miami Marlins organization. From there he made his way through Double-A with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (2018) and Triple-A with the New Orleans Baby Cakes (2018-19). Díaz was on fire smashing 26 homers with a .305 BA prior to being called up to the Miami Marlins earlier this week.

Díaz made his major league debut with the Marlins on August 5, 2019. He has only one hit since then, but it was a memorable rocket of a homer.
A simple question with many choices. There is no right or wrong answer...

When you think of the Marlins, what is the one name that comes to mind first? In the Marlins relatively short existence beginning in 1993, we have been witness to some great players, personalities, and fan favorites.

There are a lot of outstanding players in Marlins history. Some that have had long careers with the club, and some short. No matter the time spent with the team, if they were once a Marlin, they will always be a Marlin. From one-year players such as Moises Alou to the Giancarlo Stanton types who we saw blossom from prospects to All-Stars, the Marlins have been home to many notables.

The question is simple...I think.

Let's take a look at the Marlins single-season batting records. Which record(s) may be threatened this season?

The Marlins single-season batting records date all the way back to 1996. The oldest single-season record(s) belong to Gary Sheffield. Sheffield leads in on-base percentage (.465), OPS (1.090), and walks (142), all of which are from the 1996 season. The most recent records belong to ex-Marlin Giancarlo Stanton and his historic 2017 season. Stanton set the Marlins record for home runs (59), RBI (132), slugging percentage (.631), extra-base hits (91), and total bases (377).

Out of all of these records, which do you think will be broken first? Which do you think will remain unbroken?

Time to believe that the Marlins are on the RISE.

The Marlins fanbase is alive and well. Throwback Weekend reminded us all that the Marlins, through all their rebranding and changes, are still Florida's team. Wearing one of the franchise’s all-time most popular uniform combinations (circa 1997), they resembled the Marlins of old. Their demeanor was reflective of the retro threads. The team was having a blast from the past, and was enjoying every minute.

In the bottom of the fourth Bobby Bonilla drew a walk, and Darren Daulton singled to second base off of Cleveland’s Orel Hershiser. Up to bat next was the club’s regular season home run leader and All-Star Moises Alou. Down in the count 0-2, he sent the ball back, back, back, and deep into left field! The ball hit the foul pole for a three-run home run! The crowd roared with excitement and the stadium was rocking. Up next at bat was fellow All-Star catcher Charles Johnson. Johnson kept the crowd in a frenzy as he smashed the ball deeeeeep into the left field upper deck, giving the Marlins back-to-back home runs and a 5-1 lead.
