We are barely 10% of the way through this MLB regular season, but Marlins infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. and left-hander Trevor Rogers have emerged as early NL Rookie of the Year award frontrunners. Ely Sussman describes what’s been working for them thus far, identifies the obstacles that could threaten their candidacies and mentions the other main challengers from across the National League. The episode wraps up with a plea for the Fish to sign free agent Aníbal Sánchez to stabilize their starting rotation.

Entering play on Thursday, Chisholm is slashing .326/.439/.630 with three home runs and four stolen bases in 15 games. Rogers has a 1.64 earned run average and 2.36 Fielder Independent Pitching. His 31 strikeouts leads MLB rookies this season (tied for sixth among all pitchers).
The Marlins (along with numerous other MLB teams) are expected to attend Aníbal Sánchez’s free agent showcase this Friday in Miami. In the meantime, with the struggling Nick Neidert recently getting optioned, journeyman left-hander Shawn Morimando could be next in line to help patch together the back end of the starting rotation, according to Craig Mish.
