Minor League Baseball announced that 85 of its 120 full-season affiliates will participate in Copa de la Diversión next year, an initiative celebrating Latino communities. However, Marlins affiliates are conspicuously absent from the list. Weird.

Marlins minor league affiliates went a combined 8-10 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday:

  • Triple-A—Jacksonville 2, Norfolk 7; Jacksonville 7, Norfolk 3; Jacksonville 10, Norfolk 3
  • Double-A—Pensacola 3, Rocket City 2; Pensacola 0, Rocket City 4; postponed (COVID-related contract tracing)
  • High-A—Beloit 2, Lake County 8; Beloit 6, Lake County 8; Beloit 3, Lake County 6
  • Low-A—Jupiter 1, St. Lucie 2; Jupiter 7, St. Lucie 8; Jupiter 12, St. Lucie 8
  • U.S. Rookie—FCL Marlins 5, FCL Mets 14; FCL Astros 1, FCL Marlins 2; FCL Marlins 7, FCL Astros 3; FCL Nationals 5, FCL Marlins 10; FCL Cardinals 1, FCL Marlins 2
  • D.R. Rookie—DSL Rays1 12, DSL Marlins 11 (F/8); DSL Red Sox Red 4, DSL Marlins 2

Triple-A Jacksonville (67-50)

Tuesday’s starting pitcher RHP Nick Neidert: 0.0 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 K

Wednesday’s starting pitcher LHP Shawn Morimando: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

Thursday’s starting pitcher LHP Daniel Castano: 7.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 2 HR

Augmented by his three-homer game, Dustin Fowler owns a .289/.316/.526 slash line and 120 wRC+ in 20 games with Jacksonville. He was putting up similar Triple-A numbers as a Yankees farmhand four years ago, so don’t read too much into this.

Brian Miller vaulted past the injured Nasim Nuñez for the organizational lead in stolen bases.

Double-A Pensacola (57-54)

Tuesday’s starting pitcher RHP Kyle Nicolas: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 K

Wednesday’s starting pitcher RHP Max Meyer: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 7 K

The Marlins ought to be thrilled with Max Meyer’s first professional season. Twenty weeks, twenty starts and the lowest earned run average among Double-A South qualifiers (2.43).

Here is an enlightening new interview with Kameron Misner from the Swimming Upstream podcast.

High-A Beloit (53-64)

Tuesday’s starting pitcher LHP Josh Simpson: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R (3 ER), 3 BB, 9 K

Wednesday’s starting pitcher LHP Dax Fulton: 1.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR

Thursday’s starting pitcher RHP M.D. Johnson: 3.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 1 HR

Even including this sloppy finale, M.D. Johnson limited opponents to a .170 batting average this season.

Right-hander Jake Walters released the following statement earlier this week:

A little life update:

After taking to think and weigh my options, I’m finally at peace with the decision to undergo Tommy John surgery on my throwing elbow. Been putting this solution off for years now and the fact that I’ve been able to pitch with what’s left in my elbow is an anomaly to say the least. So I’m beyond excited to come back a better version of what I was. I appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers from those of you who have supported me thus far. Will be back throwing cutters in no time.

[peace sign] till Spring Training 2023.

Walters has been productive in the pros since being selected in the ninth round of the 2018 MLB Draft—2.82 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 148 K in 150.0 IP (36 G/22 GS). But he’ll be 27 years old by the time he returns to official game action.

Low-A Jupiter (61-54)

Tuesday’s bulk guy LHP Luis Palacios: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

Wednesday’s starting pitcher RHP Chris Mokma: 3.2 IP, 9 H, 8 R (6 ER), 1 BB, 5 K

Thursday’s starting pitcher RHP Gabe Bierman: 3.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR

Jordan Holloway “started” Jupiter’s series opener against St. Lucie to begin his rehab assignment from an unspecified injury.

Paul McIntosh recorded hits on Thursday with exit velocities of 107.0, 108.4 and 111.2 miles per hour. He has an outstanding 163 wRC+ for the Hammerheads.

FCL Marlins (27-27)

Monday’s bulk guy RHP Delvis Alegre: 2.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R (6 ER), 0 BB, 4 K, 2 HR

Tuesday’s Game 1 starting pitcher LHP Dameivi Tineo: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 5 K

Tuesday’s Game 2 starting pitcher RHP Mario Doble: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR

Wednesday’s starting pitcher RHP Edgar Sánchez: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 HR

Thursday’s starting pitcher RHP Luis Vizcaíno: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Infielder Chris Torres is 1-for-9 with a walk through three rehab games.

DSL Marlins (17-28)

Monday’s starting pitcher RHP Jhoniel Serrano: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K

Tuesday’s starting pitcher RHP Yaqui Rivera: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
