It was not the usual suspects for the Miami Marlins offense on Tuesday night. Recent trade deadline acquisitions Bryan De La Cruz and Alex Jackson lead the offense, along with Isan Diaz, in Miami’s 5-4 win over the New York Mets.
Jackson, who came into the game with a .037 batting average, started the scoring with a solo home run to straight away center field in the second inning.

Díaz followed that up with a home run of his own in the following inning, also to center field. The 424-foot home run is the second longest of his career.
De La Cruz had himself an all-around fantastic performance on both sides of the ball. He went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two infield singles. He also saved multiple runs in right field. With Jeff McNeil on third base in the fourth inning, Javier Báez lined out to De La Cruz, who fired a throw home to keep McNeil at third. In the following inning, with a runner on first base, De La Cruz had to race back to the wall on a James McCann line drive. De La Cruz was able to launch into a full backwards sprint and make an over-the-shoulder catch to save extra bases and possibly a run.
That saved run possibly made all the difference, along with a Jorge Alfaro insurance RBI-double in the eighth.
Up by two in the ninth inning, McCann drove home J.D. Davis on an RBI-double. Things were looking dicey for a bullpen that had not looked sharp all season. But Dylan Floro was able to force Brandon Drury to ground out to Isan Díaz.
Miscellaneous notes
-Jorge Alfaro started in left field for the first time in his career. He previously played one inning in left field earlier in the season.
-Nick Neidert went 5 ⅔ innings while allowing three runs on three hits. He’s the 19th different Marlins pitcher to get a winning decision this season.
-Dylan Floro recorded a save in the ninth, but in the process gave up an earned run for the first time since June 14.
