What to watch for on...

Friday: South Florida kid Jesús Luzardo makes start #2 at home.

  • Luzardo vs. Mets on Aug. 2: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K.
  • Luzardo (Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS grad) and Lewis Brinson (Coral Springs HS grad) hoisted their hometown team to a win in the pitcher’s first start at LoanDepot Park. Luzardo struggled in Colorado on Aug. 7, giving up seven earned runs in just 4.2 innings. He’ll look to bounce back on Friday and set the tone for the series against the Cubs.

Saturday: The other South Florida kid, Lewis Brinson, has been on fire.

Sunday: Mr. Consistent, Zach Thompson.

  • Outside of his last start against the Padres, Thompson hadn’t given up more than three earned runs in an outing.
  • The start against the Padres on Aug. 7 wasn’t as disastrous as other recent starts the team has been tasked with overcoming, but it was Thompson’s worst of the season. He allowed a season-high 4 earned runs and tied his season-high 4 walks. Watch for him on Sunday when he faces a weak Cubs lineup.
