Cubs Starting Lineup

  1. 3B Matt Duffy
  2. 1B Frank Schwindel
  3. 2B David Bote
  4. LF Patrick Wisdom
  5. C Robinson Chirinos
  6. RF Ian Happ
  7. CF Johneshwy Fargas
  8. SS Sergio Alcantara
  9. RHP Adbert Alzolay (2021 season stats: 4.71 ERA, 5.03 FIP, 24.4 K%, 40.4 HardHit% in 105.0 IP)

Notes: The Cubs stumble into Miami on an eight-game losing streak...After parting ways with many of their core players and placing Willson Contreras on the injured list (right knee sprain), they have unsurprisingly struggled offensively. Their team OPS since the trade deadline barely cracks .600, which ranks bottom five in the majors during that span...This will be Alzolay’s first career matchup against the Marlins. They’ll be relying on him to provide some length—Chicago’s bullpen is pretty drained after working 16 23 innings over the previous three days.

Marlins Starting Lineup

  1. SS Miguel Rojas
  2. 2B Isan Díaz
  3. 1B Jesús Aguilar
  4. CF Lewis Brinson
  5. 3B Brian Anderson
  6. LF Jorge Alfaro
  7. C Alex Jackson
  8. RF Bryan De La Cruz
  9. LHP Jesús Luzardo (2021 season stats: 7.36 ERA, 5.99 FIP, 21.5 K%, 35.8 HardHit% in 47.2 IP)

Notes: Don Mattingly is finally back at the helm (James Rowson handled his managerial duties over the previous 12 games). Jazz Chisholm Jr. is also active, with Joe Panik placed on the injured list in a corresponding move...Rookies Paul Campbell and Zach Pop have quietly been among the most effective Marlins relievers recently...Brinson has been, not so quietly, carrying the Marlins lineup. He is putting together high-quality at-bats against righties like Alzolay, producing more barrels and a higher average exit velocity vs. same-handed pitchers in 2021 than he’s ever had a single season.
