Welcome to Tuesday’s Marlins (36-47, +21 RD) vs. Dodgers (53-32, +120 RD) game thread. The dream of returning to October is dead, but we can still enjoy the rest of this 2021 odyssey.
Picks are only valid if submitted to us prior to first pitch.
The Fish Picks leaderboard is updated daily. Nobody picked a Perfect Game on Monday, even though the Marlins won! That’s unusual.
At the end of each month, the Fish Picks points leader—whoever has the most total correct picks—will get to choose between a 305 Cafecito Candle from our partners at 305 Candles ($49 value) and a hand-painted Trevor Rogers baseball card from the Topps MLB Living Set. - RF Mookie Betts
- 1B Max Muncy
- 3B Justin Turner
- CF Cody Bellinger
- C Will Smith
- 2B Chris Taylor
- SS Gavin Lux
- LF AJ Pollock
- RHP Tony Gonsolin (2021 season stats: 2.81 ERA, 3.66 FIP, 30.6 K%, 32.4 HardHit% in 16.0 IP)
Notes: Steven Souza Jr. was designated for assignment following Monday’s game...Gonsolin had a very productive rookie season in 2020, but his sophomore workload has been limited by right shoulder inflammation. This will be his first time facing the Marlins...Turner has reached base safely in 16 consecutive starts.
- 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr.
- CF Starling Marte
- RF Garrett Cooper
- 1B Jesús Aguilar
- SS Miguel Rojas
- LF Jesús Sánchez
- C Jorge Alfaro
- 3B Joe Panik
- RHP Pablo López (2021 season stats: 2.97 ERA, 3.30 FIP, 25.8 K%, 33.1 HardHit% in 91.0 IP)
Notes: López has thrown only one official pitch since June 25 because of his unjustified ejection last weekend against the Braves...Dating back to last season, Jesús Aguilar has a streak of 169 homerless plate appearances in Miami...The well-rested pitchers available in the Marlins bullpen (haven’t pitched in at least two days) are Anthony Bass, Ross Detwiler, Dylan Floro, Yimi García and Jordan Holloway—Holloway is expected to be leaned on for several innings on Wednesday, but Don Mattingly described it as a “bullpen game” instead of naming him the traditional starter, so that suggests he could pitch tonight in an emergency.
