The Offishial Show Episode 124: Previewing Brian Anderson’s Return from IL

New, 1 comment

The Marlins should be getting their third baseman back on Saturday. Even for a non-contending team, that’s a huge development.

Miami Marlins third baseman Brian Anderson (15) throws to first base and takes out New York Mets left fielder Cameron Maybin (not pictured) in the ninth inning at loanDepot Park Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Ely Sussman reacts to what we saw from Anthony Bender, Anthony Bass, Jon Berti and Isan Díaz on the just-completed Marlins road trip, then looks forward to Brian Anderson’s upcoming activation from the injured list.

Anderson (left shoulder subluxation) is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list on Saturday. In 35 games before this IL stint, he slashed .250/.316/.371 with a 92 wRC+ and 0.7 fWAR. He’s earning $3.8 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility.

Frustrating as it was for the Marlins to be without BA for such an extended period, that absence will limit his earning potential in his remaining arb years relative to pre-2021 projections. It is not at all unreasonable to wonder if there will be mutual interest in negotiating a contract extension next winter should he perform well down the stretch.
