Pablo López and Alek Manoah will start Wednesday’s Marlins vs. Blue Jays game at Sahlen Field. Full lineups and game notes in here.

Welcome to Wednesday’s Marlins (24-29, +6 RD) vs. Blue Jays (28-25, +46 RD) game thread. After making their home in Dunedin, Florida the previous two months, this is the first game of 2021 that the Jays will play in Buffalo, New York. Sahlen Field is closer to their native fanbase and able to accommodate much larger crowds.

Pablo López - 2021 Frequency of Pitches by Pitch Speed Baseball Savant

Notes: Hard to believe given their divergent starts to the season, but Jesús Aguilar (.254/.320/.458, 115 OPS+) and Garrett Cooper (.267/.341/.427, 114 OPS+) have been essentially identical offensive performers in 2021...Anthony Bass earned himself a multi-year free agent deal last offseason on the strength of his road performance. Sahlen Field wasn’t a great environment for the then-Blue Jay in 2020 (6.30 ERA, 1.50 WHIP in 10.0 IP).

Blue Jays Lineup

  1. 2B Marcus Semien
  2. SS Bo Bichette
  3. DH Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
  4. RF Teoscar Hernández
  5. CF Randal Grichuk
  6. 3B Joe Panik
  7. LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
  8. 1B Rowdy Tellez
  9. C Reese McGuire

RHP Alek Manoah (2021 season stats: 0.00 ERA, 1.80 FIP, 31.8 K%, 15.4 HardHit% in 6.0 IP)

Notes: Relative to the rest of the league, the Blue Jays have enjoyed lots of lineup continuity. Bo Bichette, Randal Grichuk, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Marcus Semien have played in all 53 games for them thus far...Nobody on the Marlins roster has any history with Manoah, Toronto’s top pick from the 2019 draft who pitched only nine minor league games before ascending to The Show.
