What to watch for on...

Monday: Corbin Burnes.

  • In four starts this season: 40 strikeouts. No walks.
  • Burnes has had a historic start to the 2021 season and the Marlins have been struggling offensively. In their last two series (five games), the Fish have racked up 45 strikeouts and walked just nine times. Will Burnes continue to keep the bats silent and bases empty?

Tuesday: Brewers’ hitters vs. LHP

  • Coming into this series, the Brewers have not faced a left-handed starter.
  • Trevor Rogers and Daniel Castano will be the first two left-handed starting pitchers the Brewers will face this season. With the focus on Burnes on Monday, Castano may be lurking quietly the following night. (But don’t expect him to match the strikeouts! Castano has more career innings than in Burnes’ four starts this season, but he only has 14 career Ks to Burnes’ 40 thus far.)

Wednesday: Run support!

  • I feel like a broken record...
  • ...but am I wrong? Sandy Alcantara didn’t have his best stuff in his last outing, but he only allowed two runs. The Marlins’ only offense all night was a leadoff home run by Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the third pitch of the game. Other than a two-out walk in the fourth inning, Alcantara got no help. The bats have to wake up eventually. Can they do it in this series?
