Welcome to Friday’s Marlins (5-7, 0 RD) vs. Giants (8-4, +6 RD) game thread. All on-field personnel from both teams will be wearing uniform No. 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson.

Fish Picks has indeed returned for a third season! Whether you enter picks here on fishstripes.com or at the @fishstripes Twitter account, it’s always free to participate and the prizes are real.

Fans can find the props within game threads like this one or as the pinned tweet on our Twitter account. They will be posted at least four hours prior to the game’s scheduled first pitch (assuming both the Marlins and their opponent declare a probable starting pitcher by then). Generally, there will be five props per game, four about individual/team stats and the final one always being the moneyline pick (which team will win). Picks are only valid if commented or tweeted to us prior to first pitch.

Your goal every day is to “pick a perfect game” and choose the correct outcome for each prop. Whoever has the most perfect games each month receives a t-shirt of their choice from our partners at Legends of Dade!

The Fish Picks leaderboard will be updated daily.

Giants Lineup

  1. CF Austin Slater
  2. 2B Donovan Solano
  3. RF Mike Yastrzemski
  4. 3B Evan Longoria
  5. 1B Wilmer Flores
  6. LF Darin Ruf
  7. C Buster Posey
  8. SS Brandon Crawford
  9. RHP Anthony DeSclafani (2021 season stats: 0.82 ERA, 2.05 FIP, 25.0 K%, 50.0 HardHit% in 11.0 IP)

Notes: It’s an interesting Giants offense. Although their overall production is very pedestrian, they have the fifth-most home runs in the National League (17) and use 4.23 pitches per plate appearance, the highest average in the majors...DeSclafani, the former Marlins prospect, has been the epitome of a league-average pitcher during parts of seven MLB seasons (102 ERA- and 100 FIP-). He has steadily relied more and more on his secondary pitches with each passing year. It has reached a point in 2021 where his fastball (45.0%) and breaking ball (44.4%) usage is almost identical, according to Statcast...Prior to the game, the Giants placed Johnny Cueto (right lat strain) on the injured list and called up right-hander Camilo Doval in a corresponding roster move. Cueto wasn’t lined up to pitch in this series, anyway.

Marlins Lineup

  1. LF Corey Dickerson
  2. CF Starling Marte
  3. 1B Garrett Cooper
  4. RF Adam Duvall
  5. 3B Brian Anderson
  6. 2B Jazz Chisholm
  7. SS Miguel Rojas
  8. C Jorge Alfaro
  9. LHP Daniel Castano (2020 season stats: 3.03 ERA, 4.81 FIP, 9.5 K%, 38.6 HardHit% in 29.2 IP)
Baseball Savant

Notes: Despite a concerning spring training performance, Ross Detwiler has been very impressive since the real games began as Mike Petriello of MLB.com points out. Here’s a video of Detwiler from February explaining the role that the slider/cutter has in his pitch mix...Even in what was a relatively quiet game for him on Thursday, Jazz Chisholm Jr. “barreled” the ball twice as defined by Statcast. Overall, he has barreled one-third (33.3%) of his batted balls in 2021, the highest rate in the majors among regular starters.
