Welcome to Saturday’s Marlins (12-5) vs. Cardinals (8-8) spring training game thread.

For the final time this spring, a Marlins game is going to be available to watch from home. Five days until the real action begins!

Marlins Lineup

  1. DH Corey Dickerson

  4. 2B Isan Díaz
  5. RF Lewis Brinson
  6. LF JJ Bleday
  7. 3B Jon Berti
  8. CF Magneuris Sierra
  9. C Chad Wallach

P Sandy Alcantara (2021 spring stats: 1.04 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 24 K in 17.1 IP)

Notes: Sandy has a chance to chase down teammate Trevor Rogers for the 2021 MLB spring strikeout lead, but the Marlins are going to be cautious with him. The right-hander is expected to work three innings, according to Don Mattingly...Interesting that so close to the beginning of the season, Mattingly made room in the lineup for Bleday. The former top draft pick has performed solidly (.731 OPS in 28 PA), but is not a candidate to break through to the majors yet...Díaz is hitless since Mar. 8 (0-for-his-last-21). It’s probably too late for him to salvage the second base job, but it would be encouraging to see him produce against a great major league pitcher like Flaherty...Craig Mish reports that fireballer Anthony Bender is under serious consideration for an Opening Day bullpen spot. A decent outing today—his first test of the spring pitching on zero days’ rest—could clinch it for him.

Cardinals Lineup

  1. 2B Tommy Edman
  2. 1B Paul Goldschmidt
  3. 3B Nolan Arenado
  4. SS Paul DeJong
  5. LF Tyler O’Neill
  6. C Yadier Molina
  7. CF Dylan Carlson
  8. RF Justin Williams
  9. P Jack Flaherty (2021 spring stats: 6.97 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, 10 K in 10.1 IP)

Notes: When Flaherty previously faced the Fish on Monday, he allowed four runs (three earned) while striking out five in 5 13 innings of work.
