Welcome to Monday’s Marlins (9-4) vs. Cardinals (7-6) spring training game thread.

For the first time in nearly six months, a Marlins game is going to be televised locally. It’s only the Grapefruit League so the final result doesn’t matter, but still—progress!

Cardinals Lineup

  1. 2B Matt Carpenter
  2. 1B Paul Goldschmidt
  3. 3B Nolan Arenado
  4. SS Paul DeJong
  5. C Yadier Molina
  6. RF Dylan Carlson
  7. LF Austin Dean
  8. CF Harrison Bader
  9. P Jack Flaherty (2021 spring stats: 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, 5 K in 5.0 IP)
Baseball Savant

Notes: This is Flaherty’s third start of the spring and first against the Fish...Most of St. Louis’ 40-man roster players have stunk it up at the plate with the notable exception of Tyler O’Neill who’s slashing .394/.412/.667 (34 PA) and is the only one on the club with multiple home runs...The Cardinals have not lost to Miami yet here in 2021 and can clinch the spring season series with a win today.

Marlins Lineup

  1. LF Corey Dickerson
  2. 2B Jon Berti
  3. 1B Jesús Aguilar
  4. C Jorge Alfaro
  5. RF Lewis Brinson
  6. SS Jazz Chisholm
  7. 3B Joe Dunand
  8. CF Magneuris Sierra
  9. P Sandy Alcantara (2021 spring stats: 0.00 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 19 K in 12.2 IP)
Baseball Savant

Notes: This morning, the Marlins announced that Lewin Diaz and Monte Harrison had both been optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville, confirming that neither will make the Opening Day roster despite playing regularly in Grapefruit League games...Alcantara is tied for third in Major League Baseball in strikeouts. His spring pitch mix has been 43.7% four-seam fastballs, 22.3% sinkers, 17.3% changeups, 9.1% sliders and 7.6% curveballs...Jazz Chisholm Jr. is red-hot at the plate recently (5-for-10, 2 HR, 2 BB since Mar. 15). It will be difficult to deny him a major league spot if he does more of the same this week...Anthony Bass and Yimi García are both expected to pitch for the second consecutive day.
