- The following MLB free agents received qualifying offers prior to Sunday’s deadline: Brandon Belt, Nick Castellanos, Michael Conforto, Carlos Correa, Freddie Freeman, Raisel Iglesias, Robbie Ray, Eduardo Rodriguez, Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Trevor Story, Noah Syndergaard, Chris Taylor and Justin Verlander. Nearly all of them are expected to decline in order to pursue multi-year deals on the open market, but the league’s expiring collective bargaining agreement may complicate the decision in a couple cases.
- A pair of potential Marlins targets, J.D. Martinez and Mike Zunino, are off the market. Martinez did not opt out of his Red Sox contract despite serious speculation that he would, while the notoriously frugal Rays picked up Zunino’s $7 million club option for 2022.
- The New York Post’s Ken Davidoff predicts the Marlins to sign Brett Gardner (one year, $4 million) and Nippon Professional Baseball’s Seiya Suzuki (three years, $21 million plus posting fee).

- Adam Duvall won the National League Gold Glove award in right field. The Marlins didn’t do anything to acknowledge the accomplishment, but maybe they should have? Duvall played 96.6% of his right field defensive innings this season with Miami (the Braves used him mainly in left and center). He started only one game in RF after the trade! He is the first Fish player to earn GG honors since Marcell Ozuna in 2017.
- The finalists for the 2021 BBWAA awards will be revealed tonight on MLB Network. Trevor Rogers is a virtual lock to be in the mix for NL Rookie of the Year. Jazz Chisholm Jr. has a tiny chance of cracking the top three as well (Reds infielder Jonathan India is the presumptive award winner).
- Jazz has adopted a puppy, King, and you can follow his adventures on Instagram (@king_chisholmjr3).

- Brian Navarreto was the starting catcher for Gigantes de Carolina in their first two games of the Puerto Rican winter league season (LBPRC). Isan Díaz is also on the team’s active roster, but he has yet to play.
- Behind-the-scenes tours of LoanDepot Park will take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the offseason at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. time slots. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for kids (ages 14 and under).
