Left fielder JJ Bleday went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI, a pair of walks and an outfield assist, while first baseman Troy Johnston went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and a walk of his own. Left-hander Josh Simpson retired six of the eight batters he faced (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP on 27 pitches). Their Mesa Solar Sox beat the Scottsdale Scorpions, 13-5.

• The league championship series matchups are now set with the Astros and Red Sox battling for the American League pennant and the Dodgers and Braves still standing on the NL side.
• There are now three MLB managerial vacancies after the Cardinals surprisingly parted ways with Mike Shildt. The Mets and Padres are the other clubs searching for their next skipper.
