With a 4-3 extra-inning win over the Yankees Friday night and a 6-4 Phillies loss to the Rays, the Marlins have clinched second place in the NL East and a berth in the 2020 MLB postseason. Yes, really!
A “rebuilding” team that was widely projected to finish dead last in the division, one that started the regular season strong only to be devastated by a COVID-19 outbreak, has rallied from unprecedented adversity to qualify for October.

The Marlins (30-28) will play two more games in New York Saturday and Sunday. Those next couple days will determine whether they finish as the NL’s No. 5 or No. 6 seed—either way, they’ll be the road team for next week’s best-of-three matchup, their first postseason series since 2003.
