Nats series preview

Get set for five games this weekend between the Marlins (25-23) and Nationals (18-29). A Miami sweep would essentially lock up a postseason berth, while getting swept would put the club in desperation mode entering the final road trip of the regular season.

Probable starters: Friday early game—RHP Erick Fedde (5.06 ERA, 6.76 FIP in 37.1 IP) vs. RHP Sixto Sánchez (1.69 ERA, 3.26 FIP in 32.0 IP); Friday late game—RHP Wil Crowe (7.50 ERA, 11.03 FIP in 6.0 IP) vs. TBD (expect either LHP Daniel Castano or LHP Braxton Garrett); Saturday—LHP Patrick Corbin (4.10 ERA, 3.88 FIP in 52.2 IP) vs. Pablo López (4.02 ERA, 3.17 FIP in 47.0 IP); Sunday early game—RHP Max Scherzer (4.04 ERA, 3.30 FIP in 55.2 IP) vs. RHP Sandy Alcantara (3.45 ERA, 4.45 FIP in 28.2 IP); Sunday late game—LHP Ben Braymer vs. Castano or Garrett (whoever doesn’t start Friday)

Notable absences: Losing outfielder Adam Eaton (fractured left index finger) leaves a void atop the Washington lineup, though frankly, he was having a terrible season anyway. Outside of veterans Daniel Hudson and Will Harris, the Nats bullpen is hardly recognizable due to numerous injuries. Jon Berti (right index finger laceration) could potentially return from the IL on Sunday.

Ride that wave, baby!
