Welcome to Sunday’s Marlins (1-1) vs. Phillies (1-1) game thread. It’s the all-important rubber game of the 2020 regular season’s opening series.

Fish Picks is BACK and better than ever! Our free-to-play daily prop bets contest is open to all fans. I was thrilled to see so many participants during the exhibition games. Courtesy of a new Fish Stripes partnership with Fantom Drip, weekly points leaders will win their choice of a Marlins face covering (first winner to be selected based on July 24-August 2 point totals).

The Fish Picks leaderboard will update daily to let you know where you stand.

Marlins Lineup

  1. DH Jonathan Villar
  2. RF Jon Berti
  3. LF Corey Dickerson
  4. 1B Jesús Aguilar
  5. 3B Brian Anderson

P Robert Dugger

Baseball Savant

Notes: Players at the club’s alternate training site in Jupiter are suiting up today for an intrasquad game. Good sign for Lewis Brinson, who is starting in right field for the “road” team—he’s nearing a return from the injured list. Newly signed outfielder Travis Snider is also in the lineup as a designated hitter...First it was Jorge Alfaro on Friday and now José Ureña has been scratched on extremely short notice (I will update in the comments with further details). Dugger makes his 2020 season debut instead.

Phillies Lineup

  1. CF Adam Haseley
  2. 1B Rhys Hoskins
  3. RF Bryce Harper
  4. C J.T. Realmuto
  5. SS Didi Gregorius
  6. 3B Jean Segura
  7. DH Jay Bruce
  8. 2B Scott Kingery
  9. DH Neil Walker

P Vince Velasquez (2019 stats: 4.91 ERA, 5.21 FIP, 25.2 K%, 39.6 Hard Hit% in 117.1 IP)

Baseball Savant

Notes: Velasquez, like Ureña, is seeking to rebound from a disappointing season that saw him bumped out of the starting rotation at times. He was among the many Phillies players in 2019 who seemed to underperform in head-to-head matchups with the Marlins...Saturday’s unlikely Phillies hero, Phil Gosselin, is on the bench for this contest.

How to watch/listen/follow

The game gets underway at 1:05 p.m. ET. Watch on FOX Sports Florida and via MLB.TV or listen on 940 WINZ. All Marlins team broadcasters will remain in South Florida, calling the game remotely.
