Welcome to Friday’s Marlins (0-0) vs. Phillies (0-0) game thread. Yes, we made it to Opening Day. Keep in mind that there was some rainfall in Philadelphia earlier in the afternoon, but that is not expected to impact the start time.

Fish Picks is BACK and better than ever! Our free-to-play daily prop bets contest is open to all fans. I was thrilled to see so many participants during the exhibition games. Courtesy of a new Fish Stripes partnership with Fantom Drip, weekly points leaders will win their choice of a Marlins face covering (first winner to be selected based on July 24-August 2 point totals).

The Fish Picks leaderboard will update daily to let you know where you stand.

Marlins Lineup

  1. CF Jonathan Villar
  2. 1B Jesús Aguilar
  3. LF Corey Dickerson
  4. RF Harold Ramírez
  5. 3B Brian Anderson
  6. DH Garrett Cooper
  7. 2B Isan Díaz
  8. C Francisco Cervelli
  9. SS Miguel Rojas

P Sandy Alcantara (2019 stats: 3.88 ERA, 4.55 FIP, 18.0 K%, 33.3 Hard Hit% in 197.1 IP)

Notes: This marks the 28th Opening Day for the Florida/Miami Marlins. The franchise has an all-time 11-16 record in such games...Catcher Jorge Alfaro is a surprising omission from the lineup, placed on the injured list this afternoon (no specific reason given). The Marlins selected the contract of Sean Rodriguez to take his place on the active roster and signed journeyman outfielder Travis Snider to a minor league deal, adding him to their player pool...Although an NL All-Star selection in his first full major league season, Alcantara is far from a surefire ace. He was very ordinary in 2019 when it comes to throwing first-pitch strikes and generating swing-and-misses. If he struggles with those elements against the Phillies, it will be a short outing that exposes the inexperienced Marlins bullpen...Villar is the most accomplished base-stealing threat that the Marlins have had since this rebuild began. His legs vs. Realmuto’s arm will be an intriguing matchup throughout this series...Heading into a potential breakout year, our own Ernesto Herrero estimates what a reasonable Anderson contract extension would be.

Phillies Lineup

  1. LF Andrew McCutchen
  2. 1B Rhys Hoskins
  3. RF Bryce Harper
  4. C J.T. Realmuto
  5. SS Didi Gregorius
  6. 3B Jean Segura
  7. DH Jay Bruce
  8. 2B Scott Kingery
  9. CF Roman Quinn

P Aaron Nola (2019 stats: 3.87 ERA, 4.03 FIP, 26.9 K%, 38.5 Hard Hit% in 202.1 IP)

Notes: COVID-19 complications delayed Nola’s Summer Camp preparations. But he was brought up to speed quickly enough to make his third straight Opening Day start...Of course you know about Realmuto, but ex-Marlins infielder Neil Walker is also on the Phillies roster and figures to see regular action off their bench this season...Juan Páez has a more detailed preview of the team here.

How to watch/listen/follow
