Arizona State’s Spencer Torkelson, Vanderbilt’s Austin Martin and Texas A&M’s Asa Lacy have distinguished themselves as the consensus top three prospects of the 2020 MLB Draft class. Wednesday morning, Prospects Live reported that they will be selected in that order by the Tigers, Orioles and Marlins, respectively:
Hearing from multiple sources that Picks one, two, and three are set. Locked in are Tork 1.1 to Detroit, Martin 1.2 to Baltimore, and lefthander Asa Lacy to Miami at 1.3. This on the heels of this morning’s earlier report of a Martin+(Nick Bitsko) combination at pick two and thirty.
Earlier in the day, Martin falling to the No. 3 spot was still considered a possibility (albeit a longshot).
The Athletic’s Keith Law said he wouldn’t be “surprised” if the Marlins went underslot and took Minnesota right-hander Max Meyer. Carlos Collazo of Baseball America echoes that sentiment—as of 4:43 p.m. ET—writing that “we heard the same rumor from multiple officials with multiple teams.”
Fish Stripes will have much, much, much, much more about Lacy if/when he is announced as the pick. But with a couple hours to go, the Prospects Live scoop has not been confirmed by any other outlet.
