MLB Dream Bracket: Marlins upset Braves to reach Round of 16

The No. 11 seed on the National League side of the bracket, the Marlins will face the mighty Dodgers in the next round.

The all-time team representing the Marlins in the MLB Dream Bracket beat the Braves convincingly in the first round of the tournament, four games to one. The series simulation was held beginning on Apr. 13 using Out of the Park Baseball 21 (OOTP 21) and the results were revealed Tuesday on MLB.com.

Atlanta’s roster was stacked with Baseball Hall of Famers such as Hank Aaron, Chipper Jones and Greg Maddux, whereas the Fish had zero players with plaques in Cooperstown. Yet the under dogs made easy work of the Braves, jumping out to a 3-0 series lead and outscoring their opponent 35-15 overall.

The late, great José Fernández was a standout, starting both the series opener and the clincher, contributing 10 23 scoreless innings. Catcher J.T. Realmuto had a huge impact as well, batting .500 with eight runs scored despite being buried at the bottom of the lineup. Longtime rotation staples A.J. Burnett and Anibal Sanchez adapted well to relief roles—neither allowed a run and Sanchez sealed the Game 5 victory with two solid innings.

The Dodgers won their best-of-seven series against the Padres, advancing to face the Marlins in the Round of 16. Results from that are coming this Friday.
