Welcome to Thursday’s Marlins vs. Phillies MLB The Show 20 game thread. You read that right: a thread for us to discuss a virtual game taking place on what would’ve been 2020 MLB Opening Day.
As announced Wednesday night, Miguel Rojas (Marlins) will host Rhys Hoskins (Phillies) in a special MLB The Show matchup from the comfort of their respective homes.
Anytime, anywhere ... Including virtual reality.

If you have an appetite for rewatching Marlins games that actually happened and counted, MLB is taking care of that, too. And don’t forget about our Games of the Decade series!
Notes
- In real life, the Marlins (inexplicably) won the 2019 season series over the Phils, 10-9. However, they were outscored in those games, 105-95.
- Hoskins annihilated Marlins pitching as a rookie, coming back down to Earth in recent years. His career slash line against the team is .272/.420/.604 with 14 home runs in 48 games. Rojas, meanwhile, is more or less the same offensive player against the Phillies as he is under normal circumstances.
- I have zero insight into either guy’s MLB The Show abilities, but expect plenty of trash talk.
How to watch/listen/follow
The game begins at 4:10 p.m. ET from Rojas’ house in South Florida, but you aren’t allowed in there—it’s free to stream from the Marlins YouTube account. The @fishstripes Twitter account will provide plenty of live commentary and highlights!
