We’ll start with the Election of Derek Jeter to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Captain (or the CEO, in the Marlins’ case) captured 99.7 percent of the vote and was just one ballot shy of becoming just the second ever unanimous selection after teammate Mariano Rivera. Our congrats to him!
Captain. Champion. CEO. Legend.

We weren’t alone among must-follow Miami-based baseball Twitter accounts in tweeting out our welcomes or congratulations. Miguel Rojas tweeted his praise, and likewise, so did the team.
Elsewhere, Baseball America updated its top-100 prospects list for the coming 2020 season.

58. OF Jesús Sánchez
68. RHP Edward Cabrera

Braxton Garrett didn’t quite make the list, but he did earn an honorable mention. He was also among 14 players extended non-roster invitations to Spring Training.
Player Profiles!
Exactly three weeks from today, Marlins pitchers and catchers report to Jupiter for Spring Training. As they gear up, so are we at Fish Stripes, previewing the 2020 season with player profiles, most recently Johan Quezada.
On December 6, the Marlins lost Tayron Guerrero on a waiver claim. The next week, they reached a deal with 6-foot-9 Johan Quezada to—figuratively and literally—fill his shoes.

We took care of Jorge Alfaro just before Quezada. Click through either to see the whole list.
We’re still tracking what the players have been up to this winter with our Offseason Fish series. Caleb Smith and Lewin Diaz took home different kinds of hardware. We’ve also updated our list of Marlin social media.
LDogSr, one of Fish Bites’ most loyal readers, wrote a Fan Post that begs for your attention.
Longtime Fish Stripes commenter LDogSr wants Jon Berti and Eddy Alvarez atop the Marlins Opening Day lineup https://t.co/Oizz5W0F3J

I, for one (er, two I guess) would love to see Jon Berti get another chance at the top of the Marlins’ lineup. He got on base at a .356 clip and stole 16 bases in just 197 second-half at-bats last season. Sounds fun to me, Mr. LDog.
The Fish got a new a merch deal. The franchise has partnered with Fanatics for the next 10 years in an effort to bring greater variety and accessibility to Fish-fan fashion. (And I learned what zubaz pants are as a result of the news.)
New Fish Bites
We’ll close with our customary exhortation to check out the latest Fish Bites pod, wherein key dates for Marlins fans during the upcoming season are discussed.
