The third of seven possible team names for the new Marlins Triple-A team was released Wednesday via Wichita Baseball 2020 social media: the Wichita Linemen.
It’s a reference to the song “Wichita Lineman,” written by Jimmy Webb and first recorded by country artist Glenn Campbell in 1968 with subsequent covers released since.
The Triple-A New Orleans Baby Cakes concluded their 2019 season with a win on Monday. It marks the end of an 11-year affiliation between NOLA and the Marlins organization.
Wichita Baseball 2020 is set to release four more possible names for the team—which will be moving into brand-new stadium in downtown Wichita, Kansas—in the coming weeks. The first two names were the Wichita River Riders and the Wichita 29ers.
