Marlins Lineup

  1. CF Jon Berti
  2. SS Miguel Rojas
  3. 1B Neil Walker
  4. 3B Starlin Castro
  5. C Jorge Alfaro
  6. 2B Isan Díaz
  7. LF Austin Dean
  8. RF Lewis Brinson
  9. SP Robert Dugger (4.45 ERA, 5.72 FIP, 15.5 K%, 40.0 Hard Hit% in 32.1 IP)

Notes: On this date three years ago, Cuban sensation José Fernández and two other young men died tragically in a boating accident. I’m taking this opportunity to re-share a tribute to JDF originally written by our own Colby Olson in 2018. On Twitter, we have received countless stories from fans about when and where they learned about the loss of an icon...Much like Fernández, Marlins shortstop prospect Nasim Nuñez emanates joy on and off the field and shows so much confidence in his ability. The 19-year-old took some time to join us for an interview on Earning Their Stripes about his first season in professional baseball.

José Ureña’s transition to relief work—11.25 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, 2 SV in 4 SVO in 8.0 IP—has been close to a worst-case scenario. So many questions remain about the 2020 bullpen composition.

Mets Lineup

  1. CF Brandon Nimmo
  2. LF Jeff McNeil
  3. 1B Pete Alonso
  4. RF Michael Conforto
  5. C Wilson Ramos
  6. 2B Robinson Canó
  7. 3B Todd Frazier
  8. SS Amed Rosario
  9. SP Jacob deGrom (2.51 ERA, 2.72 FIP, 31.8 K%, 31.5 Hard Hit% in 197.0 IP)

Notes: These numbers don’t have any direct correlation, but it’s amazing that deGrom’s strikeout rate is higher than his hard-hit rate for an entire season. Total domination. The Mets are on the verge of being eliminated from postseason contention, but they ought to be feeling satisfied with their decision to extend the right-hander long term. Doing so before the 2019 campaign saved them a lot of dough down the road.
