Marlins Lineup

  1. SS Miguel Rojas
  2. CF Magneuris Sierra
  3. RF Garrett Cooper
  4. 3B Starlin Castro
  5. 1B Neil Walker
  6. 2B Isan Diaz
  7. C Jorge Alfaro
  8. LF Jon Berti
  9. SP Sandy Alcantara (4.04 ERA, 4.61 FIP, 18.0 K%, 33.3 Hard Hit% in 171.2 IP)

Notes: Including tonight, the Marlins will play 13 of their final 16 games on the road. The Giants are their weakest remaining opponent, so they could be looking at an all-time bad September record if this series goes poorly...As we have noted on several platforms, Sandy is favoring his sinker over his four-seam fastball recently. That has led to a boost in strikeout rate and better performance overall. Jake Mailhot of FanGraphs goes into greater depth about the sinker’s movement and reasons why it pairs well with his secondary pitches...Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic cautions Marlins fans that both Don Mattingly and Michael Hill could be held responsible for this disappointing 2019 season (subscription required). Regarding Hill, “his influence has waned under new ownership” while Gary Denbo has seized more decision-making authority.

Giants Lineup

  1. RF Mike Yastrzemski
  2. 1B Brandon Belt
  3. 3B Evan Longoria
  4. LF Stephen Vogt
  5. CF Kevin Pillar
  6. C Buster Posey
  7. SS Brandon Crawford
  8. 2B Mauricio Dubon
  9. SP Tyler Beede (5.33 ERA, 5.30 FIP, 20.7 K%, 44.1 Hard Hit% in 101.1 IP)

Notes: So apparently the Giants hate playing the Marlins? Our sister site McCovey Chronicles explains...Posey has been dropped to the No. 6 spot in the lineup for the first time since 2010. Jarring to see only six home runs and a .690 OPS from the former NL MVP...It’s been a bad rookie season for the former first-round draft pick Beede, but his last matchup with the Fish was a bright spot (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K).
