A full report on the Clinton LumberKings and their current second-half playoff run. The club will have to adjust following the promotion of starting center fielder Connor Scott to High-A Jupiter. Filling his shoes, 2019 Marlins draft pick Kameron Misner is joining the roster.
Speaking of the draft, right-hander Tyler Kolek (No. 2 overall pick, 2014) joins the podcast (7:35). Kolek revisits how throwing 100-plus miles per hour changed the trajectory of his career, and what it took to return to competition following Tommy John and Thoracic Outlet surgeries.
Enjoy Episode 18 of A-Ball!
More than five years into his pro career, Kolek is behind schedule relative to the rest of his draft class. Through 161 total innings, he’s posted a 5.48 ERA and 1.70 WHIP, and hasn’t experienced a full healthy season since 2015.
However, there has been an uptick in Kolek’s strikeout rate this summer since returning from his T.O.S. procedure (27.6 K% is easily a career high).
Originally expected to be a starting pitcher when signed by the Marlins, the 23-year-old still aspires to get stretched out for that role in the future (health permitting).
