A-Ball with Erik Oas Episode 17: J.D. Osborne on development, Clinton’s clubhouse culture

Catcher J.D. Osborne talks his journey from hockey to baseball and being a “clubhouse guy.”

We give a full report on the hottest team in the Midwest League, the Clinton LumberKings. The Marlins Low-A affiliate boasts an incredible 21-9 during the second half of the season. Prospects Christopher Torres and Connor Scott have active hitting streaks of 11 games and 13 games, respectively. Notably, the offense exploded for 16 runs last Thursday, the largest output by the LumberKings in any game since the 2016 season.

Then, catcher J.D. Osborne joins the podcast (8:45) to talk about his path from hockey to baseball, staying sharp despite irregular playing time, and his most embarrassing baseball memory.

The Marlins selected Osborne in the 22nd round of the 2017 MLB Draft. Now in his age-24 season, the Canadian is slashing .272/.324/.435 with career highs in practically every counting stat.
