Padres Lineup

  1. SS Fernando Tatís Jr.
  2. 1B Eric Hosmer
  3. 3B Manny Machado
  4. RF Franmil Reyes
  5. LF Hunter Renfroe
  6. CF Manuel Margot
  7. 2B Greg Garcia
  8. C Austin Hedges
  9. P Chris Paddack (2.84 ERA, 3.79 FIP, 26.7 K%, 31.8 Hard Hit% in 82.1 IP)

Notes: Barely four years removed from signing with the Marlins out of high school as an eighth-round draft pick, Paddack will be starting a regular season game in Miami for the first time. Exactly how they planned it out! Well...not exactly. The Fish hastily flipped the tall right-hander for an aging Fernando Rodney in 2016. Since then, Paddack has overcome Tommy John surgery and forced his way into the Padres rotation thanks to a brief yet absolutely dominant minor league career. He is, quite simply, a complete pitcher (health permitting). Paddack’s ability to command pitches and the nastiness of his changeup leave opponents helpless.

Marlins Lineup

  1. SS Miguel Rojas
  2. 3B Neil Walker
  3. 1B Garrett Cooper
  4. RF Brian Anderson
  5. 2B Starlin Castro
  6. LF Curtis Granderson
  7. CF César Puello
  8. C Bryan Holaday
  9. P Trevor Richards (4.18 ERA, 4.66 FIP, 20.8 K%, 33.9 Hard Hit% in 99.0 IP)

Notes: Richards’ signature changeup ranked No. 3 in Daniel Toll’s new article on nastiest Marlins pitches this season. Without peeking first, can you guess which pitch grabbed the top spot?...Speaking of rankings, the Marlins vaulted from No. 14 to No. 7 in the FanGraphs post-draft update of top MLB farm systems. To the best of my knowledge, this is the highest praise that the franchise has received from any established national talent evaluator since the rebuild began...Luis Davila has all of your injury updates from last night. In addition to that, we’re awaiting word on Martín Prado (hamstring strain). He posted a 1.000 OPS in six rehab games with Jupiter and Jacksonville.
