In Episode 11 of A-Ball with Erik Oas, we offer a full report on the Clinton LumberKings and are joined by reliever Alex Vesia (9:25). The left-handed reliever, who’s been one of Minor League Baseball’s premier strikeout artists in 2019, talks his path into professional baseball, the difficulty in throwing changeups, building team chemistry and being an influence on younger players. We also look forward to newly signed Marlins draftees who could be joining the LumberKings roster later this month (37:00).

The Marlins selected Vesia out of Cal State-East Bay in the 17th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. Since then, he’s posted a 1.95 earned run average in 64 23 innings pitched (32 appearances) while striking out nearly one-third of all batters faced (33.0 K%).

The 23-year-old is on track to earn a promotion to High-A Jupiter by season’s end.
