Marlins vs. Reds: Start time, how to watch, game thread and Fish Picks—April 9, 2019

Game preview, lineups, news and props for Marlins vs. Reds in Cincinnati.

Derek Dietrich signed with the Reds after the Marlins non-tendered him last offseason
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Thanks for joining us for Tuesday’s Marlins (3-7) vs. Reds (1-8) game thread.

Throughout the 2019 season, Fish Stripes is your home for daily Fish Picks prop bets. I posted the full introduction toward the end of Spring Training. The monthly points leader for March/April, May, June, etc. wins Fish Stripes merchandise prizes. (Do you know of any South Florida businesses who might want to sponsor additional Fish Picks prizes? Details here.)

The Fish Picks leaderboard will update daily to let you know where you stand.

Marlins Lineup

  1. LF Curtis Granderson
  2. 3B Brian Anderson
  3. 1B Neil Walker
  4. 2B Starlin Castro
  5. C Jorge Alfaro
  6. SS JT Riddle
  7. CF Lewis Brinson
  8. RF Peter O’Brien
  9. P José Ureña

Notes: Ureña’s rotation spot isn’t in jeopardy (yet), but he’s been the weak link for the Marlins thus far. Some pressure on him to put forth a decent outing to comfort the fanbase.

Marlins Communications

Reds Lineup

  1. RF Jesse Winker
  2. 1B Joey Votto
  3. LF Matt Kemp
  4. 3B Eugenio Suárez
  5. CF Scott Schebler
  6. 2B Derek Dietrich
  7. SS José Peraza
  8. C Tucker Barnhart
  9. P Luis Castillo

Notes: Yasiel Puig has begun serving a two-game suspension that will keep him on the bench for both Tuesday and Wednesday...Being strictly platooned in Cincinnati, Dietrich gets to focus on right-handed pitching and is off to a strong .278/.316/.833 start (only 1 HBP, though). Of course, Dietz spent his previous six major league seasons with the Fish, transcending the game of baseball with his enthusiasm and authentic fan engagement. Our contributor Zac Ference reflected on all of that in this letter back in November.

How to watch/listen/follow

The game gets underway at 6:40 p.m. ET. Watch on FOX Sports Florida and via MLB.TV or listen on 940 WINZ.
