Miami Marlins catcher Will Banfield, a highly touted 2018 MLB Draft pick, sits down for an extended interview (6:08) on his baseball gifts, the art of catching, and an awaking bat. Then, Director of Player of Development Dick Scott (27:20) joins us for a quick conversation about the Clinton LumberKings roster and organizational philosophy.
Enjoy Episode 4 of A-Ball:
Banfield enters Wednesday with an ugly .136/.224/.250 slash line and bloated 38.8 K% in 11 games for Clinton, though he’s riding a season-best three-game hitting streak. The 19-year-old has amazed behind the plate by throwing out 13 of 19 (68.4%) of attempted base-stealers.
“I have a job to do behind the plate and I have a job to do while I’m at the plate hitting-wise, so those two things are separate for me. I flush it, whether I’m doing good or bad.”
