Marlins vs. Rockies: Start time, how to watch, game thread and Fish Picks—March 29, 2019

Game preview, lineups, news and props for Marlins vs. Rockies in Miami.

Through the years, Fish Stripes has hosted a “game within the game” during the Marlins regular season. Gives us a distraction from low-quality baseball, presenting an opportunity to win even when the team gets blown out.

The concept will survive into 2019, but under a new name and format. Icthyomancy is out, “Fish Picks” is in.

I posted the full introduction toward the end of Spring Training.

The Grapefruit League prop bets were just for fun (congrats to Twitter user @dee_marlins). That changes now—the monthly points leader for March/April, May, June, etc. wins Fish Stripes merchandise prizes.

The Fish Picks leaderboard will update daily to let you know where you stand.

Rockies Lineup

  1. RF Charlie Blackmon
  2. 1B Daniel Murphy
  3. 3B Nolan Arenado
  4. SS Trevor Story
  5. LF David Dahl
  6. CF Ian Desmond
  7. 2B Ryan McMahon
  8. C Tony Wolters
  9. P German Márquez

Notes: Márquez ranked fourth in the National League with 230 strikeouts last season. He was particularly good down the stretch en route to winning NL Pitcher of the Month for September.

Marlins Lineup

  1. LF Curtis Granderson
  2. 3B Brian Anderson
  3. 1B Neil Walker
  4. 2B Starlin Castro
  5. RF Garrett Cooper
  6. SS JT Riddle
  7. C Jorge Alfaro
  8. CF Lewis Brinson
  9. P Trevor Richards

Notes: Brinson plummets all the way from Opening Day leadoff hitter to the No. 8 spot with a right-hander on the mound. In fact, Don Mattingly tinkered with every spot of the lineup aside from keeping Anderson in the No. 2 spot...Watch out for Richards’ pitch mix—the nasty changeup is back, but he’ll be trying to incorporate a new curveball and cutter as reliable weapons.

How to watch/listen/follow

The Marlins seek their first win beginning at 7:10 p.m. ET. Watch on FOX Sports Florida and via MLB.TV or listen on 940 WINZ.

Friday’s credentialed Fish Stripes writer is Alex Krutchik (@AlexKrutchikFS).
