Earlier this week, Minor League Baseball launched a #LetsNameOurTEAM campaign to crowdsource potential names for the Marlins Triple-A affiliate that’s moving to Wichita, Kansas in 2020. Submit your suggestions here.

We need your help to name our new team!

Is there something from Wichita’s cowboy or aviation roots that makes the best name? Is there something undeniably unique to Wichita that would make the best name? Or is there another name that will proclaim the future of Wichita to the rest of the world?

We invite you to suggest names along with your reasons for those names and also help us better understand your beloved city, one which we are excited to call our new home, by answering some questions below.

The Marlins have had their Triple-A squad in New Orleans since the 2009 season. They were known as the Zephyrs for most of that time, then rebranded as the Baby Cakes in 2017. Apparently, neither of those are “midwesty” enough, so they’re starting fresh.

The city of Wichita is publicly funding construction of a downtown, state-of-the-art “baseball village.” Although the relocation adds mileage to the commute for Marlins players being recalled or sent down, it significantly helps with the travel between other Pacific Coast League cities.

Some team names that received support within our Fish Stripes Slack channel include Cattle, Flying Cows, SkyCows and Twisters. We’ll spend the next week-and-a-half posting more suggestions to our Twitter account.

Now, it’s your turn. If you have a clever name for the Wichita team, make your case in a FanPost. If your argument is convincing, we’ll stuff the ballot box with submissions and try to bring it to life.
