Last night’s game

Matt Carpenter did it again, homering in the sixth inning to give the Cardinals the lead for good, in what would turn out to be a 7-1 defeat for the Marlins.

Trevor Richards had been excellent prior to surrendering the home run, and still finished with a solid line.

“El Profe” spoke after the game:

Mattingly was forced to address Carpenter’s insane hitting:

The Sun-Sentinel has three takeaways from the game.

Jeter speaks

Derek Jeter was all over the news before and during the game. He first made it known how the club would like to retain J.T. Realmuto and sign him long-term.

The Marlins’ boss spoke on a variety of other topics, too: the team’s recent funk, the recently-promoted prospects and the improvements in the farm system. He later joined the Fox Sports booth for a bit.

In other news, Lewis Brinson and Garrett Cooper are returning soon. The Herald highlights how Starlin Castro has been a solid veteran and a leader on a young club.

Meet Tristan Pompey

The Marlins got a first-round talent with the No. 89 pick in June’s draft. Outfielder Tristan Pompey has progressed rapidly to High-A Jupiter, producing from both sides of the plate (.317/.432/.423 overall).

Ian met him on Wednesday afternoon for a one-on-one conversation about his Canadian roots, experience at the University of Kentucky and professional goals. Check it out!
