The Athletic announced on Twitter Monday morning that their digital sports coverage is expanding to South Florida sports.
The first official hires, Chris Perkins and Orlando Alzugaray (both established personalities in the market), will focus on the Dolphins. You can find their work here. This news also comes with a 30 percent off promotion, which discounts the usual $4.99/month subscription to $3.49/month. That deal gets you access to 32 U.S. markets, seven Canadian markets and national content from The Athletic. In my experience (subscriber since January), it’s a great value.
Still no word on when they’ll get into the Marlins coverage business. Just vague reassurances for now.
The Athletic has made its reputation on the strength of high-quality reporting, like the stuff you’ll find in our “exclusives” section (which is free!). It has long been a goal of theirs to locally cover each of the 30 MLB teams, so expect them to—eventually—finalize deals with Marlins writers between now and the start of the 2019 season.
While The Athletic drags their feet on these hires, any of you interested in joining the web’s most dedicated Marlins coverage is encouraged to hit me up.
