MIAMI—A day after being announced as an all-star for the first time in his Major League career, J.T. Realmuto is on the paternity list as he expects his first child. Realmuto is having the best season of his career slashing .317/.368/.551 with 12 home runs, 20 doubles, and 3 triples through 66 games.

Chad Wallach has been reinstated from the MiLB DL and will serve as the back-up catcher to Bryan Holaday while Realmuto is out.

Drew Rucinski, who has been a terrific addition to the Marlins bullpen this year, was put on the 10-day DL with a right groin strain. Rucinski has added length and quality to the ‘pen, having five multi-inning appearances. He has a 3.12 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP in 13 games.

Left-handed reliever Javy Guerra who is rocking a 0.00ERA through 16 23 innings in Triple-A Nola has been recalled as the corresponding move. Guerra through 21 major league innings in 2017 had a solid 3.00 ERA and struck out 12 batters.

Caleb Smith underwent a successful surgery today to repair his throwing shoulder.

While it was short 2018 season for Smith, he showed some very encouraging signs for the Marlins. He struck out 88 batters in just 77 13 innings which comes out to a strong 10.2 K/9. Today he was also transferred to the 60-day DL and his season is expected to be over. We wish him the best in his rehab process.

In completely unrelated news, a very well-known former Marlin, Junichi Tazawa has been released by the Detroit Tigers. He gave up 8 runs in 7 23 innings for the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens and never received a call-up.
