July Fourth was all Marlins as Jose Ureña returned from the DL to throw five scoreless innings while J.T. Riddle knocked in the go-ahead run and and later insured the lead with a homer.

That Riddle had a big game coming was no mystery to us, however. The Sun-Sentinel ran a feature on the win that heretofore I had not seen but that I hope becomes regular. Fangraphs took note of Riddle, too. Mattingly, as usual, offered his thoughts on the win:

The tweet says it all. But there is more here, too. And lest you think Brinson’s DL stint is a cover, check out the tape first.
Sweet Lew and Alcántara weren’t the only ones to wind up injured. A cooler ironically went on the DL mid-game after hothead Carlos Gomez used it for batting practice:

Marlins Twitter remained on point in the replies section, too.
Scuttlebutt:
SI talks about the weirdness of Tuesday’s game. CBS Sports reports the Marlins need to be blown away by an offer to deal J.T. Realmuto. Speaking of the best catcher in the National League,
Hard to find a better leader than this guy @marlins and @mlb fans vote for this guy and send him to the #AllStarGame @JTRealmuto https://t.co/VdCtfonxBC

Today’s the last day you can: Vote Realmuto.
Today’s game:
The Marlins are in D.C. to take on the Nationals. The undefeated Pablo Lopez (1-0) will toe the rubber opposed by Jeremy Hellickson (2-1) at 7:05 PM. Here’s the skinny on the full series.
Since Fox Sports didn’t provide me with a graphic, I leave you with this touching rendition of God Bless America from yesterday’s game. Note the reactions of the veterans at the beginning and when the song reaches its climax — pretty amazing stuff, I say.
