Day One of the 2018 MLB Draft is in the books! Check out Ely’s stream for every bit of information you could want on the Draft.
MLB.com will be providing live coverage of Rounds 3-10 on Day 2, with a preview show beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET. Rounds 11-40 will be provided by MLB.com on Day 3, starting at noon ET.
The Marlins have picks #89, #117, #147, #177, #207, #237, #267, #297 today. After yesterday’s picks of Connor Scott, Osiris Johnson, and Will Banfield, the Marlins are showing everyone that they aren’t shying away from high-ceiling, low-floor prep position players.
Baseball America’s recap of what the Marlins did last night:
— Danny (@all_right_Miami) June 5, 2018
Connor Scott: tough to put a ceiling on, bc. of how polarizing he may one day be (comp: Kyle Tucker)
Will Banfield: the unanimous BEST prep C in the draft
Osiris Johnson: long development, very high ceiling SS/OF
Since there is a game today at 8:15 ET, I won’t post any Icthyomancy points here. So this thread is designed to just chat about the picks in real-time. I would like to see how you all feel about yesterday’s picks!
On the Marlins conference call with Michael Hill. Hill says they have been scouting Connor Scott since his freshman year. He also compared Scott has a combination of speed and power - a left handed version of a Lewis Brinson.
