Well, at least it didn’t go 16 innings like the last time Straily and Rodriguez faced off in Miami. The Fish lost tonight 6-3 in the middle game of the three game set in San Francisco in a game filled with controversy.
Following tension between the two teams arising largely from the Giants taking umbrage with Lewis Brinson’s bat flip after getting a game-tying single during last night’s comeback win for Miami.
Rodriguez drilled Brinson in the top of the second inning tonight leading to a bench warning being issued. Straily then plunked Posey, who had homered earlier in the game, in the bottom of the second inning, leading to he and Mattingly getting ejected.
The Marlins were already down 3-0 at this point, and Elieser Hernandez came in and pitched 2.2 innings while ultimately allowing the Giants to score runs 4 through 6. The rest of the bullpen would keep San Francisco quiet tonight for the final four innings.
Offensively, Miami had their moments, but they all came in the fourth inning, and they only produced 3 runs.
Two runs scored on a triple by J.T. Riddle, and a third on a double by Brian Anderson.

The Fish had also squandered a bases loaded one-out opportunity in the second, staying consistent with their sub-.200 average with the bases loaded this season.
Miami plays again later today in the rubber match of the three game set, as José Ureña faces off against lefty Derek Holland. Game time is 3:45 ET.
Attendance: 37,242
King Fish: Gorkys Hernandez, with a single, double and home run to go along with 3 RBI.
Flounder: Justin Bour with a rather unfortunate stumbling attempt to catch a pop up.
Turning Point: The Hernandez homer

Matchup Summary:
Last night’s thrilling comeback should provide motivation for Marlins fans to stay up late to watch the Fish play game two of their three game swing in San Francisco. It was just last week that Miami took three of four from the Giants, but it was also just last Sunday that they lost a marathon sixteen inning affair against Frisco. The starters in that game? Same as tonight: Dan Straily and Dereck Rodriguez. Let’s hope the outcome is different tonight, not only in terms of the Marlins winning, but unless you want to stay up until 3 am, let’s hope it’s only a nine inning game.
Thread Question:
What’s the latest you have stayed up to watch a baseball game?
